High Dynamic Range
Since I’ve bought my new camera, with RAW capability, I’ve start thinking about the HDR technique with a new strength. To start my effort in this way, I needed two different type of software: a RAW converter and an HDR editor software. After tried a lot of program for this purposes (mainly for Linux, my main platform), I decided to start seriously using two software: Raw Therapee for RAW editing and QTpfsgui for HDR editing. Both are available for Linux, Mac OS X and (unfortunately) Windows. For post-processing (levels, curve, brigthness and contrast) I’ve got used to GIMP.
This is my first attempt with a very unlucky picture of Westminster. The first picture is the original one, straight from the camera, the second and the third are my attempt with HDR:
I’ve extracted from the RAW file five picture with different exposure compensation: -2 EV, -1 EV, 0 EV, +1 EV, +2 EV. Then I’ve used QTpfsgui to merge the pictures together. This technique is also called Pseudo-HDR.
I’ve also added a new gallery, called High Dynamic Range, to collect all my attempts.
